Dear San Roque members,
Another fantastic week of fine sunny weather at San Roque – not sure how we managed to touch 26 degrees in December, but I’m not complaining – apologies to those currently in UK or Ireland where I understand the elements are slightly less kind!
Last week’s results
The two roll ups were played with forward tees as the heavy dew meant the course was still playing very long. Eighteen players enjoyed bright sunshine on Tuesday where VC David MacGregor took the money with an excellent 37pts, ahead of Jeremy Sibbons (35pts) and Iain Moodie (also 35pts) – well played guys! More sunshine on Thursday and twenty-one runners took on the challenge – but one player was dominant – congratulations to Yuri Pogba for carding a fantastic 40 points. Second place went to John Groszek (36pts) and third to David Campbell (also 36 points) – good shooting!
Saturday staged the first Ranking of the year and tees were back on the stones – thankfully a light poniente wind meant no dew and the fairways were noticeably dryer. With some devilish pin positions, scoring was tough for all but one – last year’s Ranking Champion, David MacGregor, continued where he left off running out a comfortable winner with an excellent 37 points. Next best was Norman Savitz with 32pts and third place went to David Campbell with 31pts.
Given recent events at the Club, I hope you will understand that the Members Christmas Ball, scheduled for Friday 14th December, has been cancelled. However, we have reserved a table for 24 at La Finca Thai restaurant – our friends at La Finca have kindly pulled together a 3 course menu with a choice of 4 main courses to choose from. Dress will be smart casual (not black tie, unless you want to!) and I would ask you to read the enclosed flyer and respond to Lady Captain Elisa asap to book your place at firstname.lastname@example.org – it will be a fun night.
We have the usual roll ups on Tuesday and Thursday, ahead of a Mixed Texas Scramble on Sunday 16th December – the scramble was originally scheduled for the new course, but with the hollow tining delayed, this will now take place on the Old Course. Please put your names down or contact the club to register your place.
Update on financial situation at the Club
No further news from Cadiz as we still await the appointment of the Administrator and with Christmas fast approaching, there has to be a chance that this appointment might not happen until the New Year. In the meantime, you should all receive notification from the Club in respect of your 2019 subscriptions – the Club feel it is appropriate to request for 2019 subscriptions monies to be paid monthly in advance, something I believe is very fair and I would urge you all to comply with this request.
I am delighted to attach a copy of the 2019 calendar – there will be some changes to the attached as we firm up Interclub matches etc and I will be sure to let you know those dates in due course. You will note that there are three tours planned this year:-
- a tour to Dublin, Ireland arriving Sunday 19 May 2019 and returning Friday 24 May 2019 – I am currently arranging Interclub return matches with Druids Glen and Hermitage and will book two further rounds, quite possibly at Portmarnock and The European Club (full details to follow in due course – please keep dates free if you are interested).
- a Portugal tour arriving Sunday 8 September 2019 and returning Friday 13th September 2019 (full details to follow in due course – please keep dates free if you are interested).
- a mixed tour to the October Beer Festival in Munich arriving Sunday 29 September 2019 and returning on Friday 4th October 2019 (please see full details on attached flyer – please reserve your place by emailing email@example.com )
Hope to see you on the course during the week,
Swing it well,
All the best,
