Dear San Roque members,
There is not much to report on the MBO, except to say that the Russian consortium must be close to the finishing line and their deal may complete as early as this week. Should that prove to be the case, I think we can be very proud of our efforts. In pushing hard for a deal, we will have ensured that the appointment of an administrator has been avoided and we can look forward to a safe financial future for our Club. I will, of course, keep you posted of all developments.
Tough conditions for Tuesday’s roll up and once again, the cream rose to the surface as David MacGregor carded a superb 42 points to win from David Steele (35pts) & Jan Sallnas (34pts). On Wednesday, I am delighted to report that the San Roque Men’s Team completed a first victory of the year against Villa Padierna, winning 7-5 overall having been held to a 3-3 tie in the away leg. Our opposition proved to be tremendous hosts and a very enjoyable lunch followed the pulsating action – a definite fixture for next year’s calendar!
Love was in the air on Thursday 14th as 24 players took to the course for the Valentines Pairs Stableford. Congratulations go to Debbie & Hugh Richards who won first prize with 45 points.
The same score as Ulla & Jan Sallnas, who had to settle for second by virtue of a higher combined handicap.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and plaudits must also go to Andy & Amanda Stanford who were clear winners of the best dressed competition!
The second medal of 2019 sits proudly around the neck of Mike Cowburn, who posted a net 69 on Saturday, despite a visit to the lake on 18. Second place went to Norman Savitz (net 73) and third to David Campbell (net 74) – well played all!
Details of this year’s Irish Tour are now on the board and attached to this email – arriving in Dublin on Sunday 19th May 2019 we will play Interclub matches against Hermitage and Druids Glen and will then enjoy rounds at The Island and The European before heading home on Friday 24th May 2019. Places are strictly limited to a maximum of 16 and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis – please email Alicia at email@example.com to reserve your place.
Please be sure to register your names for the Singles and Pairs match play competitions before end of February – the draw will be made on 1 March 2019. We have also added the dates for the Aloha Interclub matches to the calendar (reattached for convenience). This week, we have the normal roll ups on Tuesday & Thursday before the inaugural SRC ‘Bingo Bango Bongo’ Stableford on Saturday 23rd February.
For those scratching their head, Bing Bango Bongo is a mixed stableford competition where an additional 3 points are available on each hole and are added to your stableford score:-
Bingo – 1 point awarded for the first player on the green
Bango – 1 point awarded for the player nearest the hole when all balls are on the green
Bongo – 1 point awarded for the first player in the hole
Please note that players must play all shots in turn i.e. furthest away from hole must play first – if you cannot agree which player is furthest away, your neutral playing partner’s decision will be final! Players must also observe the ‘honour’ on tee shots i.e. highest stableford point scorer on preceding hole tees off first etc.
It should be a bit of fun and hope to see as many of you during the week as possible!
Swing it well,
All the best,
