Dear San Roque members,

A small drop of rain on Wednesday was much needed as the course continues to be as dry as it has ever been at this time of year – although that looks like it for the moment as the weather is set fair for the next 10 days, welcome news for those members flying in next week!

This week could be a momentous one in the Club’s history as I understand the Russian consortium will complete their purchase of the Club on Tuesday 12th March. The Irish bid made last Sunday looks to have been too late, although I understand that they are ready to step in should there be any last-minute hitches. Avoiding the appointment of an administrator and the prospect of fresh investment into the Club is welcome news for members and employees alike and I look forward to welcoming our new owners into the Club in due course.

Latest results
Last Tuesday’ roll up was dominated by the Davids – Mr Campbell won with a superb 41 points, earning a healthy handicap cut to 6.6 in the process! Mr Steele was second with 39 points (excellent playing off 1.1) and Mr MacGregor had to settle for third with 36 points. On Thursday, David MacGregor took the plaudits with a very good 38 points, with Wynne Harcombe in second (35pts) and Noel Smith in third (35pts).

We enjoyed bright sunshine and a good turnout for the ever popular Texas Scramble on Saturday – Captains picked the teams this time and this resulted in a very close result. However, a gross 70 (net 61.5) was good to enough to take first place for the team of Anne Middlehurst, Liz Griffiths, Toon van Berlo and Kerry Blight – very well played guys!

Forthcoming competitions
This week, we have the normal roll ups on Tuesday & Thursday before a St Patricks Day individual Stableford on Sunday 17th March 2019 – always a popular event, please get your names down to avoid any disappointment. The draw for the men’s singles and pairs match play has been made will be on the board in the next few days – the onus will be on the player(s) drawn on the bottom of the draw to organise the match and I will add time deadlines in due course.

I shall be at Cheltenham this week (I have a share in a horse and for those that enjoy a small flutter, Knocknanuss may be worth a small each way at 14/1 in 2.10 race on Tuesday!) – David MacGregor will kindly organise the roll ups this week & I look forward to seeing you at the club next Sunday!

Keep swinging it well
Your Captain
