Dear San Roque members,

Last week was indeed a momentous one in the Club’s history as Golf Estate Management completed their acquisition of the golf club, thereby avoiding the appointment of an administrator. As a successful operator of golf courses in Russia, Golf Estate Management will aim to restore the Club back to its best and look to run the club as a commercially viable business. They have highlighted the need to invest in the old course and would plan to replace the irrigation system, improve the bunkers and lay Bermuda grass throughout the old course. I understand that their plans would also include keeping the New Course, honouring the urbanization commitments and seeking to acquire the Suites Hotel.

Maintaining the existing membership base and working with the existing employees is key to their business plan and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the operational team of Stephen Dundas and Dmitry Kozachenko to the Club. A Members Presentation is planned for the end of this month (date and timings to follow in due course).

While the Members Buy Out was ultimately unsuccessful, I think our actions have demonstrated our passion for San Roque and have driven a positive change of ownership, bringing much needed investment & financial stability to our Club. I would like to thank all Members for their support during the process – in particular, I would like to thank Graeme Willis, David MacGregor, David Steele and Roger Griffiths for all their hard work over the last few months.

On behalf of the Members, I would also like to thank all San Roque members of staff for their patience & professionalism during this period of uncertainty. I would also like to thank and congratulate Alex on a job well done – managing the sales process while fending off enquiries from members, suppliers and employees cannot have been easy. It is a relief to all of us that we can now look forward to the next exciting Chapter in the Club’s history.

Latest results
The dry fairways allow for some roll and dare I say it, make the course slightly easier to play! Scoring certainly seems to be improving and Andy Stanford posted an impressive 43 points to win last Tuesday’ roll up. Second place went to Jan Sallnas with a highly commendable 41 points and third to Wynne Harcombe (35pts). Huge Congratulations to Gary Ward, who aced the 14th hole on Thursday on his way to 36 points and second place – Mr Reliable, David MacGregor took first prize with a very solid 38 points with Toon Van Berlo in third (35pts).

It was St Patrick’s Day on Sunday and a bumper 51 players took to the course in bright sunshine. The Guinness and Jameson on offer on the 10th tee did not deter Enrique Garay from posting a winning 45 points! Second place (and flying the flag for the ladies) went to Amanda Stanford with 41 points and the Captain had to settle for third with 40 points! A great day (and evening!) was had by all and we can look forward to many more similar events in the coming months.
