Dear San Roque members,
The minutes to last weekend’s Members General Meeting were circulated last week (thank you Alicia!) and as I mentioned last week, all members suggestions are very welcome. Stephen Dundas mentioned that he had received c. 20 emails from members to date and was grateful for the response. If you have any further ideas for your golf club, I would encourage you to email Stephen (email@example.com) with your thoughts.
I am conscious that over the first few months of my captaincy, these newsletters have been quite serious as we faced a difficult period in the club’s history. In an effort to make these newsletters more light-hearted, I have introduced a ‘Captains Chuckle’ to end each letter
It was great to see 25 players for last Tuesdays roll up when Stuart Buckwald posted his best round of the year to take the honours with an excellent 39 points. Norman Savitz continues to play well and took second place with 37 points and Hugh Richards (36pts) was third. On Thursday, scoring was again impressive, but before we run through the prizes, special mention goes to Zak Karkaletsos who posted a gross 68 for 40 points – great playing that and another cut!! Bengt Andersson took the money with an excellent 38 points, holding off Neville Kutner (36 pts) and Esmond Edwards (35pts). The April Ranking was won by Hugh Richards with a very solid 36 points on Saturday, just holding off Norman Savitz (35pts) and John Hunter (33pts) – well played guys!!
April is always a busy month and I look forward to welcoming members back to San Roque for the Easter holidays. This week, we have the prestigious Seve Trophy on Tuesday where a team of past and present captains take on a team of members who currently top the Ranking table.
It will not have escaped you that the US Masters starts on Thursday and with the field now finalized, the members sweepstake will be available in the pro shop from Monday afternoon. The first major of the year always starts with a Par 3 competition and San Roque members will do the same – on Thursday, there will be an 18 hole Par 3 competition on the New Course with new tees cut and new cards produced. It will be a medal tournament and your pre-slope handicap will be deducted from your gross score. As a mark of respect for the two-time Masters Champion, the men will be playing from Seve’s tee on the 4th – but please note there is a drop zone in front of the ladies tee! On Sunday, we will stage a Masters individual stableford tournament and then we are into Easter week – sheets are on the board for all events, so please make sure you sign up!!
I am also delighted to say that our friends at RoadRunner are again sponsoring the traditional Easter tournament on Thursday 18th April. This is always a very fun day and I would urge you to use RoadRunner’s services in La Duquesa – take a look at their website http://www.roadrunnerleisure.es/
After a particularly poor round on the old course, a golfer walked despondently up to the 18th green. He looked to his right and said to his caddie “I’ve played so badly all day, I think I’m going to drown myself in that lake.”
The caddie, quick as a flash, replied, “I’m not sure you could keep your head down that long!!”
Keep swinging it well
