Dear San Roque members,
Easter week is upon us already and it is great to see so many members return to San Roque to enjoy some warm weather and great golf. The Old Course is in fantastic condition and Robert assures me that the usual Easter thunderstorms are not looming this year!
Tuesday staged the annual renewal of the Seve Trophy when a team of present/past Captains locked horns with a team of those heading the Ranking lists….as ever, it was a very enjoyable day and congratulations go to the Ranking team (expertly captained by Jeremy Sibbons) who won the 27 hole battle by 4.5 points to 3.5 points. There was also a roll up on Tuesday, where special mention should go to Zak Karkaletsos, who recorded his second gross 68 of the month to win with 40 points. Javier Hunter was second with 34 points and David Tyler third with 33 points.
On Thursday, 34 players rolled up for the San Roque 18 hole Par 3 competition on the new course. There were no winners of the ‘skimming’ challenge across the lake at the 14th, but Chris Hutchin proved his short game to be in good order winning with a net 53 (-1 par), holding off strong challenges from Roger Griffiths (net 54.7) and Andy Stanford (net 54.9). A fun competition that
A fantastic turnout of 54 members for the San Roque Masters on Sunday and the players were rewarded by warm sunshine and little wind – as you may expect, scoring was very good. Paul Tallentire recorded an excellent 42 points to win the tournament with Dan Bannister (39pts) in second. Neville Kutner found the warm weather to his liking and took third place, also with 39 points – well played all!
A fine day was had by all and many stayed in the 19th hole to watch a pulsating final round of the US Masters – congratulations to Tiger Woods – an amazing comeback from injury! Amazingly, nobody had Tiger in the SRC Sweepstake and therefore the pot will be split equally between those that had the three players that tied for second place….namely Brooks Koepka (Jeremy Sibbons); Dustin Johnson (Elisa Runo); and Xander Schauffele (the van Berlos) – envelopes can be collected from the pro shop!
The run up to Easter continues apace and strong fields are anticipated for Tuesday’s roll up and the RoadRunner Leisure tournament & lunch on Thursday. Lady Captains Day is on Friday and I then look forward to hosting Men´s Captains Day on Saturday. We also have a fantastic Gala ‘Gatsby’ Dinner at the Club on Saturday evening and I hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend.
On Easter Monday, we will hold a ‘Stand Back’ Texas Scramble – for those that are new to this format of the game, it is very similar to standard Texas Scramble in that each of the 4 players must take at least 4 drives each. Thereafter, whichever player’s ball is then selected ‘stands back’ and does not play the next shot – that player is back in for the next shot etc. Captains will pick the teams with the aim to make them as level as possible, so please put your names down on the board!

A husband and wife were golfing when suddenly the wife asked, “Honey, if I died would you get married again?” The husband said, “No sweetie.” The woman said, “I’m sure you would.” So the man said, “Okay, I would” Then the woman asked, “Would you let her sleep in our bed?” And the man replied, “Ya, I guess so.” Then the wife asked, “Would you let her use my golf clubs?” And the husband replied, “No, she’s left handed!’’
Keep swinging it well
