Dear San Roque members,

The temperatures rose sharply last week and I never thought that I would find myself begging for a stronger wind at San Roque! The competition was pretty hot too as no less than 99 players enjoyed a fabulous day on Saturday, courtesy of our generous sponsors – Mahou San Miguel. I will be returning the favour by ensuring that I buy their products – not just their excellent range of beers, but also the new and innovative Solan water range – important to stay hydrated – I would encourage our members to do the same!

Forthcoming tournaments & events
This week we will have the normal roll ups on Tuesday & Thursday, before the second in our ‘nine & dine’ series – for those that haven’t played in one of these Friday evenings, the format is very relaxed and we will run a fun mixed individual stableford over 9 holes from 4pm onwards (all guests and members welcome). We will then enjoy a BBQ and a glass or two of wine in the Tony Jacklin House from 7pm onwards – please put your names down on the board or call the pro shop to join the fun!

On Saturday, we will stage a 4-person mixed Texas scramble (captains to select the teams) – we will then return to the TJ House at 7.30pm for the Andalusian Summer Party. Olivier & Christina are working on delivering another gastronomic treat and dinner will be served at 8.30pm…the cost will be €60pp including wine & beer. Please put your name down on the notice board or contact the pro shop to reserve your place!

Captains Chuckle
Whilst looking for original golf jokes, I came across a few proverbs that might ring true with a few of us:-

  • The higher a golfer’s handicap, the more likely he is to try to tell you what you’re doing wrong.
  • The only problem with golf is that the slow groups are always in front of you and the fast groups are always behind you.
  • Golf balls are like eggs. They’re white, they are sold by the dozen, and a week later you have to buy more.
  • You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time, but hit a 2-inch branch 90% of the time.

Keep swinging it well!
Your Captain
