A fabulous week, culminating in the Club Champs.
On Tuesday we had our first roll up of the season off the white tees, and the scores were excellent, having 25 runners and in
1st place was Tony Flanagan with 38 points, in
2nd place was Andrew Lewis with 35 points and in
3rd place was Tim (Doggy) Vincent with 34 points
The juniors were also warming up nicely for the weekend
On Thursday we had a good 25 runner turn out and in
1st place was again with a very good 42 points, Tony (get rid of that tree) Flanagan in
2nd place was Jason Rickert with a fine 40 points and in
3rd place was David Macgregor with 39 points
Then the Big One 2 days of blood, sweat and tears, many tears in my case, however a fantastic competition with real tension on the last day, with a 30 minute break for thunder and lightning, which had a few of us turning to the bar and a libation, well earnt. So off we went to finish the competition, and the sun came out to help treat us to a grandstand finish. In the Net tournament, Hug Richards, shot a brilliant net 66, on the Saturday, we all wondered if he could be caught and in the Gross we wondered who, out of Tony and Zak could win. Tony being Zak’s senior by 40 years could the old codger hang on and pip the young pup, both having shot respectable 77’s on Saturday. Well dealing with the gross first.
Zak did it. Quite comfortably in the end shooting a 79, with Tony falling short and a late burst by David Mcgregor, putting the pressure on in final few holes. So in
1st place was Zak Karkaletsos with 156
2nd David Macgregor with 161 and in
3rd place was Tony Flanagan with 167
In the net, a real humdinger, only on the 18th green with the last 3 ball was a winner found. Sadly Hug may have found the pressure of leading by some way, too much. Dan (the Ranking man) Bannister made a chase of it, as his consistency of 72 each day a fine effort, but the winner was David Macgregor, long putt on the last won him the day. So in
1st place was David Macgregor with a net 143, in
2nd place was Dan (birthday boy) Bannister with 144, unlucky Dan on your 50th birthday as well. And in
3rd place was Hugh Richards also with a net 144
I would like add my congratulations to all who played and made the weekend a real joy.
